UFAM implements telehealth system to reduce indigenous mortality in the Middle Solimões
Due to the high maternal and infant mortality rates among indigenous people in the Middle Solimões e Afluentes region of Amazonas, the state's Federal University has been training professionals who care for indigenous mothers. The goal is to make the teams use the telemonitoring platform for high-risk pregnant women.
The platform that professionals learn to manipulate gathers information about prenatal care and allows DSEI nurses and nursing technicians to enter, digitally, the data of patients who fit this high-risk pregnancy profile. In addition, the platform connects nursing teams with doctors who reside in cities.
“Digital information and communication technologies are part of the main axis of the project. A region like ours, such as the Amazon, an immense territorial extension with almost insurmountable geographical access barriers, is the best way for you to reach these more distant communities”, highlights Pedro Elias, who coordinated the training carried out by the Getúlio Vargas University Hospital (HUGV).
👉🌍 By facilitating remote access to quality health services, telehealth strengthens prevention, continuity of care, and comprehensive health services for remote communities. Once again, technology proves to be a catalyst in promoting health and combating inequalities in access to medical care.
