“Be My Eyes” app optimizes accessibility for blind and low-vision people in everyday tasks
Be My Eyes was created to help people who are blind or have limited vision. The application, which has a partnership with Microsoft, is comprised of a global community of people who are blind or have limited vision, together with volunteers without visual impairment. The app captures the power of technology and human connection to bring vision to people who have lost that sense. Through a video call, volunteers provide visual assistance to blind and visually impaired people, in situations ranging from combining colors to checking if the lights are on or preparing dinner, mainly reading tasks, describing objects, repairs, shopping, transportation, and finding items. The app is free and available on both iOS and Android. 👀
In 2023, the organization introduced a new feature called Virtual Volunteer, which uses GPT-4 to provide instant assistance. Renamed “Be My AI”, the concept is now also available in a version that allows “contact centers” to enhance customer support.
According to Be My Eyes, the tool achieved 90% success in resolving doubts without human involvement. It also reduced the average call length to approximately four minutes, compared to twelve minutes when answered by live agents. 📱
Again, technology assists in the application of telehealth principles in APS. An innovation concept compatible with the purpose of CarenApp, where we believe that digital is redefining medical care. 🌐
